While Romney doesn't practice verbal hara-kiri on the same scale as a Dan Quayle or a Rick Perry, the spectacle of the too-preppy, gaffe-prone and sometimes petulant dilettante facing off on TV against the cool-headed, cerebral, well-spoken and likeable commander-in-chief (those 4 being adjectives that even Obama's harshest critics regularly credit him with) hints at the kind of rhetorical skills mismatch that liberals haven't enjoyed since the Reagan vs Mondale debates in 1984. And this time the liberals are coming into the debates leading in the polls, instead of being 30 points behind.
